Licensed Painting Contractor Working in Saratoga
Provides Explanation of Bidding Terminology

Your home could look like this!

As a licensed painting contractor working in Saratoga, I like to ensure that my clients receive a superb paint job at a competitive price. I specialize in working with clients who have high technical and artistic standards. I find that when setting up a budget for interior painting or exterior painting, some Saratoga home owners are unaware of the differences in methodology regarding how licensed painters bid their jobs. Some licensed painting contractors bid jobs as "labor and materials," indicating that the dollar amount of the bid reflects the sum of "labor" and "materials." In my estimation, this method of bidding can be disadvantageous to a client because, if a job requires more materials than originally estimated by the painter, there may be a temptation to make up profit by watering down paint or using less paint than is maximally beneficial. By contrast, as a licensed painter working in Saratoga, I bid my paint jobs as "labor plus materials." This means that the monetary amount reflected in my bid is for "labor only." My client pays for all materials in addition to, and independent of, labor. My philosophy, and one that I routinely articulate to my clients, is that when a home owner is ready to approve an expenditure for interior painting and exterior painting, he or she should include in the budget the little extra required to ensure a quality paint job. If the material cost is an item of concern I will, upon request, provide in my bid a projected material cost. My bids are comprehensive and detailed and the terms of my bids are clearly explained in writing. I do, of course, provide my Saratoga clients with the convenience of purchasing and delivering all painting materials necessary for the paint job, and receipts are subsequently submitted for reiumbursement.

It is advantageous to a client when the "labor plus materials" methodology of bidding a paint job is employed because it ensures that sufficient materials will be used to produce quality results. This is true for interior and exterior painting, and it is particularly true than with an exterior paint job, where compromising materials by watering down paint or using an insufficent supply of caulking or paint could result in rapid deterioration of the paint job, and thus damage by water or moisture to the house. Alternatively, the use of an ample materials will help waterproof and thus preserve the exterior structure for many years to come. Ultimately, of course, this also protects a home owner's budget by reducing the frequency of necessary paint jobs. As a licensed painter working in Saratoga, I urge my clients to protect their home and their investment in painting by selecting a bid which employs the "labor plus materials" methodology.
